Project Proposal

I will write an essay on Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore is a popular show among teenagers and is about friends living in Jersey who's lives consist of drinking, dating and drama. In this essay I will argue that Teenagers have been molded to idolize the cast as well as others for irresponsable behavior when they should be idolizing those of greater achievements. I will begin my essay with a look at the shows children and teens watch opposed to the shows children and teens watched in previous years. Teens look to them as role models and expect them to teach them how to act. Because the cast does engage in risky behavior, does that teach teens to do something of the same sort? Does Jersey Shore provide an accurate image about what adult life is like in Jersey?

Questions:
1. Does Jersey Shore represent an actual depiction of life in Jersey?
2. Is Jersey Shore real or scripted for effect?
3. Do their actions effect us?

  1. Jersey Shore does not represent what life is probably like in New Jersey. There is no way that someone in real life can party as much as they do and be able to provide for themselves. I believe that Jersey Shore is not scripted, but their life is fake. It seems like just a big game to play with your "friends" and nothing in life matters, because their sole purpose on the show is to party.

  2. I don't want Jersey Shore, but I agree with Darrianna that it does not represent a real life you would have in Jersey. I think the show is scripted for entertainment and drama, in my opinion, to gain viewers.

  3. The things depicted in Jersey Shore can't be day to life for those in Jersey. I mean, the things that it shows can be real but not for the majority of people. The show could be scripted but if you put a group of people together in house with sex, alcohol, and human emotions, so many of the things on the show could happen. Also, this could influence people but anything on tv can be influential.

  4. 1. Probably not. Most "reality" shows on TV today are scripted and a lot of the things they do on the show are pretty outrageous.
    2. More than likely scripted for effect.
    3. Their actions definetly reflect us, they make the human race look sloppy and tacky.

  5. I have never been to Jersey, but from everything I've every heard/seen of Jersey from various media outlets, Jersians are rude and a little below average in IQ. So it seems pretty accurate. I think it's maybe 40/60 percent scripted/impromptu, respectively. Their actions on the showmay be misleading for some youths and a bad influence, but I think that if someone who is aware enough to know stupid when they see stupid watches the show, they won't by affected at all. Except maybe getting some good comedy/burn material.

  6. I have never watched Jersey Shore, but from what I hear about it, it is far from being an actual depiction of life in Jersey. I think some of it is probably scripted, either the words or what happens to them. I think that if you knew what stupid is, then it won't be affecting anyone, nor be a problem.

  7. 1. Does Jersey Shore represent an actual depiction of life in Jersey?
Nope. It represents the idiotic life abundant everywhere.
    2. Is Jersey Shore real or scripted for effect?
I'm sure some of it's real, but a lot of conflicts must be scripted.
    3. Do their actions effect us?
Other than to lower my opinion of reality television even further, no.

  9. 1. Jersey Shore doesn't depict actual life on the Jersey Shore, despite its title. It's more of an extreme, unrealistic, half baked version of real life there, where people basically have no responsibilities and get paid millions of dollars to be half drunk and scream at their roommates all the time.
    2. I'd like to think Jersey Shore isn't scripted, just to be sure that these people are at least being true to themselves, but along the lines of corporate greed, the show would probably be scripted, because adding a few more fights or drama would make ratings go up.
    3. The actions of the people on the show shouldn't affect us but their impact does- it makes people from New Jersey look bad, and from a foreign point of view, it probably makes Americans look bad.

  10. Jersey Shore is in no way a realistic depiction of life in Jersey. They get paid to drink, party, and act stupid. I think Jersey Shore is like many other reality shows, in the fact that parts of it are scripted, and the rest is all stupidity on their part.
Unfortunately, I do think their actions affect us because there are always those few people who see that the actors are getting paid to party, so they attempt to try the same.

  11. I will say I used to watch Jersey Shore on the regular but the show is an utter fail. This show does not represent reality but how they want us to see it. The show is very wrong and does not show young Americans the right approach to take on life.
